Midnight is a mystery, wrapped in an enigma, turned into a riddle. His age is unknown. It is only assumed that Midnight is a he – and that’s only based on the body shape of the costume and the gravely voice when Midnight speaks (a voice which could just be an electronic effect).

When he fights, it’s from the shadows: kicks, punches. He’s not above throwing people off roofs. He does the things that justice needs done, but that heroes can’t bring themselves to do.

But he knows things. About everyone. It’s assumed he knows anyone’s real identity – even someone as diligent as Flamebreak. He’s Batman, but Batman’s just a comic book character in this world. He probably knows how to kill Kansas if it ever comes to that.

He’s not a member of the Nyx Collective. It would ruin their reputation. It would ruin his reputation even more. They’re amateurs compared to him. He knows it and they know it. But, if Adrian – almost always Adrian, although Midnight has talked to Alison a handful of times – makes himself available for a meeting, Midnight will show. Sometimes with answers; other times with exactly the right question that needed to be asked.

You know the story: father on a dying planet launches his infant son to a faraway planet to save his life. A childless couple finds the infant, takes him in and raises him as their own. But one day the child grows into a teen and then into a man. Along the way, he discovers he’s stronger, tougher, faster than anyone in his small town, in his rural state, in the world. He even has laser frickin’ beams from his eyes.

Luckily, that childless couple loved the infant and taught him morality and ethics or we’d all be fucked.

He’s Superman, in a world where Superman is just a golden age comic book hero

He’s not part of the Nyx Collective. They are barely on his radar as a group. Pulse intrigues him – has potential, but also has too much edge that still needs to be polished down. He will occasionally send a mentor-like text or swoop in, say something suitably inspirational and then just as quickly (before cameras can catch it hopefully), he’s gone.
